The facility was old and moist. It seemed a bit dirty and the bathroom fixtures were rusty and missing chrome as well as the little plastic parts that tell if the water is hot or cold. The bathroom floor had mildew between the tub and floor and the ceiling tiles were stained and swollen. The kitchenette was clean but the counters were stained and the refrigerator was rusty. The carpet had been burned by an iron at some point. The swimming pool was nice but did not provide enough lounge space for people. The location was nice. It was a place to sleep and we had fun despite the things we found less acceptable. The front desk would mention that we used a third party booking site every time we asked them about rates or room problems explaining that they wouldn't promise us anything beyond the bare minimum because of this. If you are dead set on staying at the Sugar Sands please book directly with them to avoid this ridiculous third class reaction we were given over and over again. I went with some of my college friends and it was wonderful. The room size and kitchenette were very helpful and exactly what we were looking for. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The only downside to this hotel is the distance from downtown. It is about a 10 minute drive away. During the day this was nice because the beach was less crowded and hectic, but at night it was a pain to drive everywhere. The pool area and beach area was very nice.
